In his 2025-2026 Budget Speech, Québec's Minister of Finance, Mr. Éric Girard, announced that the government will extend Family Allowance payments by 12 months for parents bereaved following the death of their minor child. To benefit from the measure, the parent must be receiving Family Allowance for the child.
The extension will come into force on 1 July 2025. It will also cover the amounts paid to the parents of children eligible for the Supplement for Handicapped Children and the Supplement for Handicapped Children Requiring Exceptional Care.
