Évolution de la retraite anticipée – Données de 1992 à 2006
(Changes in early retirement – Data for 1992 to 2006; French only)
This study used anonymous data from income tax returns filed from 1992 to 2006. It deals specifically with people who started drawing income from their RRSPs or private pension plans between 50 and 59 years of age.
The study first examines the early retirement rate, specifically the number of people who chose this option. The rate was calculated for several periods from 1993 to 2005 so as to show changes over time.
The study then analyzes employment earnings in the year following early retirement and gives the number of retirees who continued to earn income once retired. A further analysis of their income before and after retirement shows to what extent retirees were able to maintain their standard of living in retirement.
Last is income makeup in the year following early retirement, then 5 years later. Income from all sources, and not employment earnings exclusively, is the focus for the later period.
