Phased retirement and the Québec Pension Plan
If you agree to reduce their work hours, your experienced workers can take advantage of one of the following measures under the Québec Pension Plan:
- from age 60 to 65, they can take early retirement under the Plan while continuing to work, subject to certain conditions
- from age 55 to 69, they can reduce their work hours while continuing to contribute on their unreduced salary in order to maintain the value of their future retirement pension. You must reach an agreement on contributions during phased retirement with the worker. You both contribute on his or her unreduced salary.
In addition, workers who receive their retirement pension under the Plan continue to contribute to it, which entitles them to a retirement pension supplement that increases the amount of their pension.
Note that...
A retirement pension under the Plan cannot be paid before age 60.
