(Retirement incomes in Québec: Key factors in the current situation and forecast up to 2035; French only)

In the framework of developing its 2007-2008 Action Plan, the Régie des rentes du Québec contributed to the elaboration of the government's social security policy. In that context, the Régie carried out a study on changes in retirement incomes for future generations and their impact on the tax base.

The first part of the study takes a look at the Québec system. First, it briefly describes the various sources of income for seniors. It then explains the relative share of each source in the income of seniors as well as the changes in the number of participants and beneficiaries. Finally, it shows past rates of return on sums invested in RRSPs.

The second part is a forecast of participation in the various retirement programs as well as the sums involved for the period from 2005 to 2035.

In the third part, the study considers the main risks faced by our system of financial security after retirement. This part includes risk projections based on other scenarios, which involve rates of return on savings and the contribution rates for capital accumulation schemes.
